Start and finish at MontataGrande
Your Etna Family Explorer day begins and ends at MontataGrande, our own family-friendly venue in Trecastagni. Park free, let the children enjoy the open-air play area and meet the animals, then relax in the picnic area. Bring your own food or choose anything from coffee and granita to a tasting, a full lunch or a children’s menu. Your experience includes a tasting of local products, small volcano-themed activities for young explorers, a diploma for every child and a family photo to take home.
Comfort or Adventure?
Comfort — Minivan
Best for families with children aged 0–10 or anyone who prefers a smooth, relaxed journey. Travel in an eight-seat minivan and follow the full family itinerary without the off-road sections.
Adventure — 4×4
For families who want extra excitement. Travel in a 6–8 seat 4×4 and add off-road sections, including the approach to the Valle del Bove viewpoint. The route and family-friendly activities remain the same.

How we share Etna
We take families up Etna and explain the mountain in a way children can follow, with clear words, time to look around, and room to ask questions. We talk about black lava, warm ground, and the smoke that shows the volcano is still awake, so the day feels both real and easy to understand. Along the way, we keep pace with small legs and leave space for the kind of wonder that grows when you stand close to a living volcano.

Families. The route, the pace and the explanations are all pitched so children and adults get something out of the same stops, and the difficulty is suitable for everyone.
Comfort travels in our eight-seat minivan and is the easier, more relaxed option — we recommend it if you have children aged 0–10. Adventure uses a 6–8 seat 4×4 and takes some off-road sections, including the approach to the Valle del Bove viewpoint. Both follow the same itinerary and both start and end at MontataGrande.
The morning departure runs through lava fields and woodland at the freshest part of the day and finishes with a tasting of sweet and savoury Etna specialities. The sunset departure has softer light and milder temperatures, and ends with an AperìDolce while the sky turns over Etna.
Morning departures run 09:00–13:00 and sunset departures 15:00–20:30
At MontataGrande, our own venue on Via Dottor Zappalà 45 in Trecastagni, 30 minutes from Catania. You park free inside, the children have somewhere to play before and after, and the day ends with the included tasting rather than a goodbye in a car park.

There is an educational workshop built for them — hands-on activities about how Etna and volcanoes work — and the cave descent, which is usually the part they talk about afterwards. Every child finishes with a Piccolo Vulcanologo diploma, and each family gets a personalised photo on Etna to take home.
